The official introduction

Hi there! I’m Heather, and decorating homes isn’t just a hobby, it’s a way to help bring joy and comfort into everyone’s space. It’s something I’ve been doing since I was little, completely rearranging my room to represent a “new me”. I’ve always felt that your space should be a reflection of you, the person or people that live there. Show-homes are beautiful, but generic spaces are meant to appeal to the masses for inspiration, and not actually represent the soul of the home. To me, the biggest compliment has always been “I knew that was yours when I saw it”. Whether it was regarding a party invitation a friend received in the mail, a cute outfit hanging in a locker room, or a picture of my home office. I want everyone who walks into my house to immediately be able to tell that I live in that space. For years, I’ve made it my mission to bring personality to every home I’ve lived in, no matter the size, configuration, or overall aesthetic. When you would walk into my home, you’d know right away it was mine.

My love of all things home decor brought me to FIT in Manhattan, where I got a degree in Textile Development and Marketing. My goal at the time was to source beautiful textiles from around the world for home application. However, as I finished up my degree, I found another degree that didn’t just speak to me, it soul sung James Brown at the top of its lungs to me. I began Home Products Development, and immersed myself into a crash course of all things home goods; china, furniture, textiles, home licensing, business concepts, you name it, we did it. It was exhausting, and I loved every minute of it. Textiles would always have a special place in my heart, but my love for home products was too strong to ignore, and for the past 13 years I’ve been working in the home decor industry.

Over the years, I’ve had my ups and downs. Covid leading to remote work, only to have remote options taken away meant the precious time I had gained with my family at home was no longer to be, and I would be back on that daily grind commuting to a far away office. There have been plenty of ups too, and those ups have been amazing to experience. I spent many years crunching through numbers and working with products to increase company sales, but the product has always been the star of my daily show.  I’ve worked with development and sourcing teams to create exclusive products for customers, which let me tell you, is a high that sugar could never compete with. Seeing a concept I created being sold to customers to put in their homes was the golden cherry on top of my silver sundae (it’s okay, you can mix metallics).

My job was always hard to explain, and most people I would be introduced to would zone out after a few moments and assume what I did was interior design. Surely that’s what “home decor” meant, right?I decorate. Close enough. This led to various friends and family members reaching out for design help for their own homes. And as decorating was always fun for me, I happily obliged. This friend needed help with a paint color, that friend needed help picking a new rug, one friend even needed help redoing her entire first floor. Every time I left my friends in their newly decorated spaces, I felt a huge rush of happiness at their acquired joy. Everyone should feel this sense of elation in their homes, and I was helping my friends achieve just that.

I constantly get asked questions about home decor from my community. I suppose with time I’ve learned a few tips and tricks in the industry, not to mention the decade or so of me decorating my own spaces, and gladly offered myself as a source of information. Then I had an “Aha” moment: what if I compiled my decorating thoughts for others to peruse through as they wished? What if I expanded my services and offered proper design assistance, with mood boards and links and layouts, like a proper professional? Well, I’m not very proper, and I’m only technically a professional, but imagine the joy I could spread by helping people find true reflection of self in their spaces, That’s where this blog comes in. My hopes are to create a library of design information that everyone can reference to enhance their own spaces so they can really bring out the soul of their home.

Through this blog, I’ll be sharing my design secrets while taking you along with me on various projects, be it in my own home, or others. I’ll be showcasing helpful products, websites, stores, and services that anyone can utilize to update their home, and showing you what I’ve done over the years to tackle various problems within my house. I’ll show you budget friendly options to wallet busting items, allowing you to realistically bring new life into your space. Home should be comfortable, stylish, and most importantly, personable. I’d love this to be a space where people can ask questions about what to do and why things work and how to fix, and even share their own ideas to the community. On this website you’ll be able to contact me for design services, read through tips and tricks, and even find the link to purchase my downloadable art and organizers for kids.

The Rule Of Three

My first tip of the day? The golden rule of THREE. Decor looks better in odd numbers and three is a key one. Looking to decorate a coffee table? Chose three objects of various sizes: a coffee table book, a bowl, and a candle. Adding some decor to a book shelf? Chose a vase, a framed photo, and a trinket box. Looking for a centerpiece for the dinner table? Try an arrangement of flowers flanked by two candle sticks. Grouping items in sets of three is visually appealing, while not overcrowding and letting each item shine on its own. Find one spot in your home that needs some styling, and try the golden rule of three. You’ll see with minimal effort, you’ll create a fresh new look, all with things you already own.

Truly great design combines form and function, with a heap of personality, whatever that may be. Some people are more relaxed, reserved, and want a space that reflects that. Some people (yours truly) are loud and bold, and will have a space that’s completely different. There is no right or wrong, as long as the space feels like yours. I can’t wait to get to know all of you, and help you create a home that is uniquely you!
